23-year old Patti Kelley Compton worked as an X-ray technician at East Ridge Hospital. It was Patti's practice to drive to work from the house she shared with her husband, Ken, on Missionary Ridge down Brainerd Road to Spring Creek Road.
On Wednesday, June 25, 1980, Patti did not show up for work. Later that day, her car was discovered in the parking lot of a Brainerd nightspot near the intersection of Brainerd Road and Spring Creek Road. Her lunch was inside the car.
Police initially suspected she had run away. But five months later, on Thanksgiving weekend, her body was found in a plastic garbage bag 100 miles away near Dahlonega, Georgia. Patti had been wearing her work uniform when she died.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency on this case, but because Patti disappeared from Chattanooga, we are posting her story here in hopes someone in the Chattanooga area who has knowledge of this case will come forward to tell us what happened to Patti Compton.
