Her husband told police they traveled to Riverdale, Georgia, on June 1, 1990 and checked into the Hometown Inn along Highway 89. He claimed Carmella left the motel with a female friend and he never saw her again. Investigators could not verify the statement made by Carmella's |
husband and he quickly moved out of state. Carmella's son, Dan Hodgman, told investigators his mother planned to leave her husband sometime during 1990. She disappeared shortly after making that statement.
Hodgman, who lived in Danbury, Connecticut, at the time of Carmella's disappearance spent several weeks in Chattanooga looking for his mother. He hired a private investigator and a psychic to help with the search. The psychic believes Gutierrez was killed and buried near water, but there's no evidence to support that theory or any theory in this case.
Carmella Gutierrez has a scar on her right knee from a motorcycle crash. She's had both an appendectomy and a hysterectomy.
