LISA JANE MANIS
Lisa Manis came to Chattanooga in the early 1990's, hitching a ride with a trucker from her home in Michigan. She wanted to find her estranged dad and build a relationship with him.
Those who knew her described Lisa as a free spirit, someone who never met a stranger. As her sister, Rebecca Allen, told Channel 3 Eyewitness News during a CrimeStoppers interview, "She never met anyone she didn't trust right away." Investigators suspect her transient lifestyle and trusting nature led to her murder. In early 1993, several weeks passed without Lisa calling her family back in Michigan. Detectives know she spent that time applying for jobs at local restaurants and hanging out at the Palomino Club on Rossville Boulevard. |
The 23-year old woman was found dead on June 12, 1993 by a man collecting aluminum cans along Mountain Creek Road. Lisa's body was lying a few hundred yards from Highway 27.
An autopsy revealed Lisa Manis had been strangled and beaten to death.
