On June 15, 2000, two 12-year old boys playing in Spring Creek off Springvale Avenue in East RIdge came upon a garbage can. One of the boys dared the other to open the lid.
Inside the can, the boys found the body of Sarah Davis Perry.
The next day, Sarah's father went to her East Ridge duplex and found a belt with Sarah's tangled hair around it. Her parents believe the belt was used to strangle their daughter to death.
An autopsy found Sarah Perry had been strangled, as her parents feared.
At the time of her death, then East Ridge Police Chief Joe Sebenick told the media there were "several good leads" in the murder but all these years later the case remains open.
Sarah Davis Perry left behind two young boys of her own. At the time of her disappearance, they were ages 5 and 3.
