HOLLINGSWORTH RECEIVES 22 YEAR SENTENCEMay 4, 2015
Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern today handed down a 22-year prison sentence to convicted killer Adolphus Hollingsworth. That's three years less than the maximum 25 years which District Attorney General Neal Pinkston pushed for Hollingsworth to serve. Hollingsworth was convicted earlier this year of Second Degree Murder for the 1997 killing of his estranged wife, Vicki Carr. Vicki's murder went unsolved for nearly 17 years. In a hearing that lasted less than 15 minutes, Judge Stern heard testimony from Hollingsworth's cousin that the defendant is a boilermaker and union member with a 7 year old daughter. |
Under Tennessee law, Hollingsworth could have received as little as 15 years and as much as 25 years behind bars. Judge Stern gave no reasoning for her decision to sentence Hollingsworth to 22 years.
Before the hearing concluded, defense counsel indicated Hollingsworth will appeal his conviction. Judge Stern set a tentative June 1, 2015, hearing on Hollingsworth's anticipated filing of a Motion for a New Trial.
