MARJORIE KATE "KATIE" CULBERSON

Katie Culberson, 21, was murdered at a Brainerd apartment complex (at 1507 Hickory Valley Road) on October 2, 1986. Investigators say she had been hit in the head and stabbed. 

Katie's mom became concerned when she failed to show for a doctor's appointment in Cartersville, Georgia. Her mom called Katie's boss and asked him to check on her.

One of Katie's co-workers drove to her apartment and noticed the draperies had been torn down. The young woman's body was visible through the window, lying on the bedroom floor. 

Police entered the apartment and discovered it in disarray. Katie had been stabbed repeatedly in the stomach and there were injuries consistent with at least four severe blows to the head. The medical examiner concluded the stabbing and the beating were each severe enough to have caused her death. There were also signs of defensive wounds on her hands and arms.
